DUBAI, May 31, 2022 (WAM) – As part of its participation in Seamless Middle East 2022 as a partner and exhibitor, Dubai CommerCity, the region’s first and leading free e-commerce zone, highlighted the integration of the latest technology trends in its services. The Free Zone ensures the adoption of advanced technologies to facilitate the process of creating new e-commerce businesses and stimulate sector growth.

Representatives of Dubai CommerCity, part of the Dubai Integrated Economic Zones Authority (DIEZ) and a joint venture with real estate investor Wasl, gave presentations and participated in very informative panel discussions.

Abdulrahman Shaheen, Senior Vice President of Dubai CommerCity Operations, spoke about the importance of the blockchain in enabling unhindered trade, noting Dubai CommerCity’s cooperation with the Dubai Customs Service in launching a free zone in Dubai.

The blockchain node will be offered to tenants of Dubai CommerCity, which will significantly reduce the cost of their implementation and allow them to take advantage of operational efficiency.

Shaheen said: “The inclusion of the blockchain brings great benefits to our customers, which include reducing e-commerce costs, enabling imports to the local market from the free zone, automated declaration, reduced fees, easy refunds, automated refunds, integrated and unique process going through the door and reduced documentation. “

Shaheen explained how a free zone can benefit business by bringing it closer to the customer and facilitating reverse logistics and fulfilling market orders. Shaheen pointed out that 80% of items purchased in the Middle East are delivered across the border.

He also noted the significant growth of the e-commerce sector, whose sales in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region are expected to reach about $ 50 billion this year, an increase of 163% in just 5 years.

Dubai CommerCity’s senior vice president of trade, Mitch Bittermann, gave a presentation entitled “Global Retail and E-Commerce Trends and Their Adaptability in the Middle East”.

According to Bittermann, among the most important trends in e-commerce are conversational commerce, super-applications and the metaverse. In addition, some retail trends include beacon technology, shopping malls with a digital experience, contactless shopping, hubs to supply micro shopping malls, among others.

On the second day of Flawless Middle East, Dubai CommerCity’s senior director of marketing and communications, Rashed Al Mulla, will discuss key factors that will guide companies on how to build trust in the marketplace.

Seamless Middle East 2022, which runs from May 31 to June 1, brings together hundreds of representatives of startups, innovators and business leaders in the fields of fintech, e-commerce and retail.
