This is a trend that has been observed for several years, online sales markets are developing greatly. These platforms, which are strongly present in the segment of sales between companies and individuals, increase the visibility of innovative SMEs and promote the emergence of new markets.
In the B2B segment, markets dedicated to the sale of industrial equipment are still limited or owned by large digital groups. Gafam and other BATXs have long understood the crucial importance of platforms in the digital transformation of our spending patterns, but do not guarantee full transparency regarding the use of the data exchanged. However, innovation through data has reinforced the sense that data has value and that its life cycle must be mastered from start to finish, especially in markets for industrial equipment sales. They are at the heart of Industry 4.0, bringing value to the resulting data.
Digitization as a fundamental trend
The digital transformation that is currently underway has become a central axis of development of society, enterprises and technology. The services provided by mobile applications are not just a technological innovation; they have changed the way we work. If digitization can be considered the result of other evolutions, it is at the same time the catalyst for these evolutions. Here are some examples:
– Mobility: the user expects to be connected to digital services anytime and anywhere. The limitations of this aspect are often poorly accepted.
– Economics of sharing : Having enabled individuals to share goods and services over the past decade, the sharing economy – as a concept and practice – is taking a step forward. His maturity and credibility are enough to convince companies to start sharing their physical and even intangible resources with each other.
– Confidentiality: the consequence of digitalisation is currently leading to a paradox related to confidentiality and data ownership. Using mobile applications or other networks may seem essential to us, while we are aware that our personal data may be processed by third parties. This is acceptable at the consumer level at best, but it becomes problematic in the buyer-supplier relationship.
The most striking development can be found in the transport industry. It remains to be seen to what extent carmakers will maintain a dominant role as manufacturers or whether these companies will be transformed into mere suppliers of equipment to service companies. Several digital companies already offer vehicles whose model is based on ancillary services. We can mention Google through its subsidiary Waymo, Sony, Xiaomi, not to mention Tesla. They offer electric vehicles, but also applications that accompany them.
