10:00 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. : National educational initiatives for the teaching of English: international mobility
International mobility has become a strong aspiration of students and teachers thanks to mastering English. Whether virtual or physical, what initiatives does National Education propose for its development? And how does this translate into English lessons?
Françoise Parillaud (General Inspector for Education, Sport and Research) and Isabelle Leguy (also Officer for the Modern Language Plan) will answer these questions through numerous presentations and testimonies.
11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. : Lesson reserved for English teachers: Teaching mixed ability classes
In many situations, and especially in the early years of secondary school, teachers deal with a group of very different students who come from different backgrounds and have very different levels and abilities in English. This leads to a number of practical problems in the classroom: addressing the needs of students at different levels; classroom management and discipline issues; lack of motivation; and more.
In this talk, Penny Ur will propose and discuss a series of practical teaching principles, illustrated by classroom practices that involve very little (or no) extra preparation for solving these problems.
