If this academic year 2022-2023 will already be held under the auspices of the Technical University, this new structure will be fully functional from January 1, 2024.
“A new step has been taken in the sense that we are making progress in the institutional constitution. Today, all the lights are green,” ENIT Director Jean-Yves Fourquet announced at a press briefing, praising “a good project for Tarbes and for Occitania”. A project that also found general support within the two current facilities and future components, ENIT and IUT, but also with local authorities. And it is the students who will be the first beneficiaries, as the future university will increase the admission capacity by around 1000 places. But there will also be more training offered, more research and more opportunities to build bridges between existing training.
“This project, presented several times for information, has found broad support and we hope that all the stars will be aligned”, he expressed his wish to the director of the IUT, Jean-Yves Chambrin. “Everybody saw the interest in this university from the beginning and it’s a big day for us, everything is now on track. I would like to congratulate the two directors and all the teams. All the problems are solved and we are ready.” “, Medef65 president Antoine Nunès rejoiced.
The challenge is multifold because if the aim of this project is to “give ambition to the young people of the area”, local companies also have significant recruitment needs. It is therefore the entire economy of the territory that should benefit from the creation of this university, whose size will be one of its advantages in terms of recognition and international visibility. Enough for young people to expand their field, but also to encourage foreign students to come and continue their studies in Bigorra. “Our territory has virtues for attracting talent, especially in master’s and doctoral studies”, emphasized Jean-Yves Fourquet.
But not only, and Agglo is also working on it, with regard to the economic development of the territory, as Gilles Craspay recalled, he also praised “a complete course that goes up to the doctorate. And with this new structure we will be able to create sectors that we do not have”. In the initial course but also in ongoing training, all in partnership with local businesses that are already widely represented on school boards to enable them to tailor training to the needs of recruiters.
“We are currently working on the reorganization of the entity. We will have to complete the operational and institutional work. And find a name,” detailed the calendar Jean-Yves Chambrin. The project, which will appear at the end of 2020, therefore continues its journey at a steady pace with a view to formalization from January 1, 2024 and the first official start that will follow.
What to strengthen “the will of the Occitanie region to rebalance the territory in terms of the university offer”, as emphasized by regional council member Pascale Péraldi. With its new university, Tarbes will confirm its status as a balanced university city.
