Make way for a busy back-to-school season! – News – University of Sherbrooke

The excitement surrounding the start of the new academic year will be in full swing in the coming days as the three campuses welcome nearly 9,000 new students.

Back-to-School Days, a must for getting your university career off to a good start or continuing, will be held on August 30th, 31st and 1st.ahem September at the Main Campus Cultural Center as well as August 30, September 6 and 10 at the Longueuil Campus. Campus de la santé students received a visit from the Registrar’s Office to produce a student card, as well as the Student Federation of the University of Sherbrooke (FEUS) and the Student Association of Master’s, Diploma and Doctorate Studies from University of Sherbrooke (REMDUS) to distribute the student agenda, August 24. They are also invited to participate in activities planned on the main campus.

Almost 70 kiosks will be part of the school circuit in the Cultural Center this week. Many student groups will be present to recruit members or simply provide an overview of the dynamic student life at UdeS. Almost 100 associations and groups are active every year. People passionate about science, social games, theater, the environment or those for whom the involvement of students is essential will be delighted.

In addition to the services offered at UdeS, there will also be several organizations in the region, including TransEstrie and Work-Study Balance. A “health and well-being” section has been created to present all UdeS resources. Members of the Student Life Support Network and Pair-Mission will be present to welcome and inform new students. Among the novelties, we can find in particular the team of ambassadors for the management of residual materials, created in 2021, whose aim is to raise awareness in the community about good sorting practices.

Bazaar and accommodation

The traditional Back-to-School Bazaar will be again in the premises of the Cultural Center from August 30 to 1ahem September. Thanks to the generosity of the university community, items of all kinds, such as small appliances and winter clothing, are available for free. This environmentally responsible event is a delight for first-time movers.

In addition, starting Friday, August 26, in the Student Life Pavilion (E1-1023), a reception is reserved for students who find themselves homeless. Until September 9 and support in finding housing will be offered Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Busy month of September

As part of Back to School Days, campuses will be enlivened with activities and performances at the beginning of the fall semester.

On Friday, September 2, the Agora on Main Campus will host an art, science and outreach event for the university community and the general public on the effects of light pollution. In the Milky Way near you will offer a program combining science popularization activities and cultural tours.

On Tuesday, September 6, it will be the turn of foreign students, who will be personally welcomed in the Cultural Center of the main campus. This evening will mark the return of the famous poutine tasting, which has been a very popular activity for years. A personal welcome will also take place in Longueuil for the first time, on Wednesday, September 28, in a happy hour format.

The unmissable Back-to-School Show, presented by FEUS and REMDUS on the main campus, will take place on Wednesday, September 7 and mark the end of back-to-school activities.
