In a recent webinar on Technology in Education: Addressing Obstacles to Online Learning Using Technology, technology and education experts shared a number of interesting insights into the applications of artificial intelligence (IA) in online education.

“By recognizing the student’s emotions and concentration level (for example, a score ranging from 1 to 10)AI can make an estimate and display these parameters. This allows teachers to take appropriate action.” said Dr Bùi Hai Hung, director of VinAI (under Vingroup).

Nguyên Phan Dung, CEO of Clevai Math, said Amazon Rekognition allows students to identify eight types of emotions: excitement, sadness, joy, anger, boredom or surprise. …

During the test, he found that this technology greatly helps teachers in imparting knowledge and supporting their students. In addition, a brainwave measuring device allows them to determine whether the student is focused or not. It is probably a tool with great potential.

Pham Nu Thanh Tu (an English teacher with a TikTok channel that has more than 110,000 followers) said in a webinar that many teachers are struggling due to lack of training in online teaching. In the old days, “If you wanted to know if a student had a knowledge gap, you had to do a surprise test in the classroom, but that becomes difficult with online learning.”.

“When I ask a student a question, I often have to wait for his answer. He studies his book or re-reads the relevant passage. I think it’s complicated, if not impossible, to use a ‘normal’ method for online teaching.” explained M.me you.

He uses apps like Kahoot and Quizzes to correct this problem. They ask questions that students must answer in real time, with content and deadlines determined by the teacher. The said apps can also provide a fun dimension for students to learn while playing.

Quizlet, for example, uses machine learning techniques and a large amount of data on more than 64 topics. According to the subject, it has matching learning materials for each individual, added Nguyên Phan Dung – CEO of Clevai Math.

Meanwhile, Van Dinh Hông Vu (master’s degree from Stanford University) mentioned Elsa, a famous AI-integrated English learning app. Based on the results of the last lesson and information from the lessons of the last two months, the application can suggest the next lesson using an advanced algorithm.

According to experts, China could now become a leader in the use of artificial intelligence, despite the controversies that the technology continues to face, especially when it comes to the issue of surveillance. Artificial intelligence is hot news in Vietnam. However, it requires greater investment to improve the technology and train the required human resources.
